Every year, the Smithsonian hosts a kite festival in conjunction with the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Washington, DC and surrounds have sprung, as it were, full of blooms of all types and it's very, very floral around here. The city celebrates this with a two week long festival honoring the gift from Japan in 1912 of 3000 cherry blossoms. The kite festival was really amazing with hundreds of kites flying and thousands more onlooking.
George and I both made box kites but the truth is, they didn't actually fly. We had a great deal of fun (and a little bit of frustration).
